I do agree that Americans certainly do a lot if whining! At the same time I do think that much of the antipathy towards atheism in American (which can be seen in this article) can be tied towards the banning of prayer in American schools and by the recent activities of the "New Atheists". Of course, the cold war and militant atheism in the Soviet Union likely fueled a lot of anti-atheists sentiment as well in America.

The newest nepotism angled attack on Copeland last week shows once again that Grassley's suspicions are not carrying much weight. There are tons of organizations that are family run in this country today. This appears to be another smear technique by Grassley's camp as Copeland stands strong. This needs to come to an end soon and the decision be made in Copeland's favor.

It seems to me that the link between homophobia and honosexuality comes specifically from repression. Repressing someone's natural homosexuality can allow all kinds of strange things - like homophobia - to manifest themselves. Since the GOP, of course, fosters an environment where it's hard as hell to come out, it puts gay Republicans in the perma-closet, which then causes things like the excessive homophobia.

So thus, in a sense it's not the fault of the individual closeted gay Republicans so much as the fault of the party, and the factions of society that support them.

i feel for anyone who's been forced to live a lie, even when that lie turns them into bigots.

** hocus pocus dominocus -- making god wafer thin **

the stock-in-trade magicians' formula is an old parody on 'here is god's body' said at the elevation of the host at mass by an officiating (and officious) RC priest.

and you thought theurgy -- summoning a god’s presence and forcing him to act through incantations -- had died. the priests’ gesture of blessing (cub scout sign) derives from a bizarre mystery religion featuring Sabazius, who had a marked proclivity for penises.

if you can believe the dogma of transubstantiation; then you can believe anything. the RC's dogmata on abortion and stem cell research are on a par with papal infallibility and the bodily assumption of mary. that is, one authoritative irrationality is as valid as another. only widespread xian political intimidation and unconstitutional tax breaks keeps RC from dying from pedophilia.

two members of the supreme court are right-wing RCs. how many media anchors, congressmen and senators follow suit?

millions still read late hellenistic magical texts and repeat their theurgic incantations -- where is the enlightenment?

Copeland does have some valid points here. I am not a follower of his, but I will support him through this investigation. It seems Grassley is pushing the limits to see how far he can go. We should all be concerned about how the outcome will affect all of us.
